Abstract
Introduction
Numerous books and articles on the history of Afghanistan have been published in Persian, Arabic, and English. However, Jonathan Lee’s work differs from these in several respects. Between 1972 and 1998, Lee traveled to Afghanistan, Central Asia, and northern Pakistan, approaching the region from a scholarly perspective. These travels culminated in his earning a PhD from the University of Leeds in the UK in 1998. His areas of expertise and research interests include social history, archaeology, the history of Afghanistan’s ruling dynasties, religious and ethnic minorities, and cross-cultural studies. He is also a member of research institutions such as the British Institute of Persian Studies and the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. Jonathan Lee has authored a number of books and articles.
