Abstract
Abstract

Colors serve various functions in human life. The choice of colors in clothing has long held significance; indeed, most functions of color in garment are instrumental, owing to the role they play in generating meaning and conveying it to the observer. This study employs a descriptive-analytical approach and library research to examine the historical functions of color in clothing during the Mongol-Timurid era. By identifying and understanding the meanings of these functions, one can better grasp the scope of the impact that clothing color had on society during the Mongol-Timurid era. The findings indicate that, during this period, the color of clothing served at least three functions: display, the expression of value, and the definition of identity. Clothing color was a tool used by the social elite to express emotions and inclinations, demonstrate spiritual worth, and distinguish themselves from others.
